The Fairbanks HopeLink (FHL) Emergency Warming Center will provide a warm location for individuals to utilize during the cold weather months. This seven-day/week facility will open after business hours, no earlier than 6:00 PM, and close daily by 7:00 AM. Occupants will be provided with comfortable seating, snacks, beverages, and access to community resources.
The Warming Center will be staffed by a project manager and a rotating peer support staff team. Team members will be fully trained in shelter procedures and at least two staff members will be in the shelter at all times.
Fairbanks HopeLink is fiscally sponsored by the North Star Community Foundation and is overseen by a Board of Directors, which was formed in October 2023 to provide a low-barrier, after-hours, cold-weather warming shelter. A working group has also been formed and meets bi-weekly to assist with direction, policies, and community connections.
Initial board members include:
Dean McDaniel, President
Jennifer Jolis, Vice-President
Brenda Riley, Treasurer
Savannah Fletcher,
Secretary. Tundra Greenstreet
Ana Barbosa
A generous, anonymous donor has made a significant gift to support the operations of HopeLink, and additional funding will be secured from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority and other sources. This funding will ensure operations through May 2024.
